Karuhanga Calls for Mandatory Tree Planting in Schools as Makerere Launches Green Campaign
Ntungamo Member of Parliament Gerald Karuhanga has called on government to make tree planting a priority in schools and higher institutions of learning, saying the initiative could help address the effects of climate change while promoting public health. Karuhanga made the remarks during the launch of the Makerere University (MUK) Green Campaign, an initiative aimed at planting trees across the university campus and promoting environmentally responsible practices among students and staff. He said the campaign should extend beyond Makerere to all educational institutions across the country, arguing that schools and universities could play a significant role in increasing Uganda's tree cover.
