13 Girls Suspected of Human Trafficking Rescued at Uganda-Rwanda Border

At least 13 girls suspected to be victims of human trafficking have been rescued at Chanika Border in Kisoro District, as security agencies strengthen surveillance and screening measures along the Uganda-Rwanda border. The girls were allegedly being trafficked from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), through Rwanda, into Uganda by an elderly woman who claimed they were travelling to participate in sporting activities. The girls were reportedly dressed in sports uniforms, raising suspicion among immigration officials about the purpose of their journey and the possibility that they were being trafficked for exploitation.
