Ethiopia’s WTO Terms Harden as Members Ask for More
Ethiopia's bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) faces its next test at a Working Party meeting on November 9 and 10, 2026. The meeting comes after trade negotiators missed their own target to complete accession at the trade body's 14th Ministerial Conference, held in March this year in Yaounde, Cameroon. The missed date does not automatically push entry back two years, since the WTO's General Council can approve a completed package between ministerial conferences. Applicant countries, not the WTO, set accession deadlines to speed reform and keep talks moving.
