Addis Abeba Centralizes Land Subdivision Decisions at Mayor’s Office
CLARIFICATION: It has come to our attention that a news story we published in our last edition [Volume, 27, Number 1383, November 1, 2026], headlined “Addis Abeba’s Land Files Move to the Mayor's Desk", has led to misunderstanding, hence speculation, that the decision concerns all plots of land in the city. Despite our subheadline stating that Addis Abeba's Cabinet “has handed Mayor Adanech Abiebie sole power to approve subdivisions of allotted land, promising faster service, the story has caused regrettable confusion. Based on communication and feedback from the Communications Department of the Addis Abeba City Administration, we wish to make clear that the Cabinet's delegation is to the Mayor's Office.
