Namibia Calls Leaked Memo on Ethiopian Airlines Running Its Planned Carrier Unauthorised
Ethiopian Airlines earned 9.1 billion dollars in revenue and carried 20.7 million passengers in the 2025/26 fiscal year. At home, it paid 30.87 billion Br in taxes in 2025/26, the third-largest sum among large taxpayers after Ethio telecom and the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). Its partnerships span ASKY Airlines in Togo, Malawi Airlines, Zambia Airways and Kinshasa-based Air Congo, feeding traffic to its Addis Abeba hub. A potential Namibian partner could add profitable local traffic, regional cargo and connecting passengers. Namibia's plan to launch a new national airline in December this year has been thrown into question by a leaked memo on Ethiopian Airlines Group's (EEAG) role in running it.
