IMF El Niño Warning Comes with a Payment Plan

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warns that El Niño-related rainfall disruptions could threaten Ethiopia's farm output, electricity generation and inflation outlook. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) puts the probability of El Niño conditions through February 2027 near 100pc. Prolonged dry spells and erratic rainfall could bring food shortages, weaker export earnings and renewed price pressure, according to an IMF Spokesperson. Agriculture employs the vast majority of Ethiopia's workforce, while hydropower supplies nearly all domestic electricity.
