Somali government warns Houthi support could boost al-Shabab’s attack capabilities
Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali government has warned that growing military and technical cooperation between Yemen’s Houthi movement and al-Shabab could strengthen the Somali militant group’s ability to carry out more attacks in Somalia. Speaking in an interview with TRT World this week, Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, said the two groups were cooperating on military technology and weapons despite their ideological differences. "The militant group of al-Shabab lacked some of the technical expertise possessed by the Houthis and could become more dangerous if it gained access to advanced weapons knowledge and military technology," he added.
